Swing Bed Program

What is a swing bed program?

If you find yourself needing time to recover from a surgery, illness or injury, our Swing Bed program would allow you to recover in a hospital setting, versus a nursing home.

At Nevada Regional Medical Center, our goal is to assist you or your loved one in becoming as independent as possible before discharge.

Our Swing Bed program offers individualized care, and provides participants with access to our highly skilled team of healthcare professionals. We utilize a caring and compassionate approach blended with high quality therapy to return our clients to the safest, highest function level possible.

Specific criteria that must be met to qualify for payment of the swing bed program:

  • Swing bed stay must be related to hospital stay
  • The doctor must determine a need for daily skilled care
  • Patient must be willing to participate in daily skilled care
  • Medicare patients must have Part A benefits

Who could benefit from the swing bed program?

  • Patients who need rehabilitation or therapy after orthopedic surgery, such as join replacement
  • Patients recovering from stroke who do not qualify for admission to an inpatient rehab center
  • Patients receiving IV therapy or wound care
  • Patients needing to regain strength and mobility after an illness, injury or surgery
  • Patients needing diabetic management

Physicians, healthcare professionals, social workers and family members may refer patients. Hours for referral review are Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30. We accept admissions 24/7.

Medicare Payment

Medicare will cover up to 20 days in full and up to an additional 80 days with a patient copay, as long as the criteria are met.

Medicare supplements will usually pay the deductible as long as Medicare continues coverage. Your individual coverage will depend on how long you meet the criteria. The average length of stay in a swing bed is around 15 days.

Our swing bed coordinator is available to assist patients and families with any questions regarding Medicare payment, rehab criteria being met and length of stay.
