A small crowd stands just outside locked doors, waiting for the clock to strike 11:30. They excitedly peek through the glass at displays of high-fashion, designer bags. The doors open as event organizers hurriedly take their places at registration and sales tables. The first check is swiftly penned for a Coach bag stuffed with mystery gifts. It’s Designer Purse Bingo!

Nevada Regional Medical Center (NRMC) Foundation hosted its fourth annual Designer Purse Bingo fundraiser Sunday, June 24 at the Nevada Elks bingo hall. 185 bingo players attended. A total of 43 donated or sponsored purses were taken home by attendants, including the blackout bingo prize of a Jimmy Choo handbag valued at $1300.

Proceeds from ticket buyers, sponsorships, and the silent auction totaled more than $12,600. After expenses, the event raised a total of approximately $9,000. These funds will be applied to the general Foundation fund which is used to support patient care and outreach programs across the system of health services at NRMC including its rural health clinics.

“This is one event that, as soon as it is over, I can’t wait to start working on the next one,” said Natalie Eberhard, Foundation Manager at NRMC. “It’s just that much fun and it supports quality healthcare for the six counties we serve. How do you beat that?”

The event is successful due to the contributions of many. The Purse Bingo Committee comprised of Foundation board members began planning and organizing months in advance. Nevada Baseball Club supplied the large task of bingo operation. Bingo players were treated to a buffet of delectable appetizers catered by Count On Us Catering who also sponsored the event. Finally, dozens of sponsors contributed through monetary and purse or accessory donations.
