Respiratory Therapy/Testing

The Cardiopulmonary Department provides both inpatient and outpatient care. Routine respiratory care services include: Oxygen Administration, Aerosol Treatments, Ventilator Care, Electrocardiograph (EKG), 24-hour Holter Monitoring, Cardiac Stress Testing, Oximetry, Pulmonary Function Testing, Polysomnography (Sleep Studies), and Pulmonary Clinic.
Neurodiagnostic testing: Electroencephalograms (EEG) are performed at NRMC. This is a recording of brain wave activity. The EEG is used for evaluating seizure disorders, central nervous system infections, assessment of head injuries and many others. The test takes about two hours to perform. Interpretations of the tests are performed by Neurologists at Children's Mercy in Kansas City and by the Kansas City Neurology Group.
Pulmonology: Pulmonary Clinic is available on Wednesdays at NRMC. Pulmonologists from Kansas City Pulmonary travel to NRMC to provide this service. Referrals need to be made through your primary care provider.
Sleep Studies: A sleep study, known as polysomnography, is used to determine if the patient has sleep apnea. This is a potentially dangerous situation in which the patient may stop breathing when they are asleep. Metropolitan Sleep Services Inc. provides this service at NRMC. Referrals must be made through your primary care provider. If you or someone you know has any of the following symptoms, you may want to talk to your primary care provider about having this testing done:
Excessive daytime sleepiness
Morning headaches
Loud snoring with periods of silence followed by "gasps" for air
Dozing while driving
Memory and/or judgment problems
Irritability
For more information about sleep studies, please contact the Respiratory Care department at 417-667-3355. |
