NRMC Celebrates the “Passing of the Torch”
=On Wednesday, November 18th, Nevada Regional Medical Center will recognize the retirement of Sara Lawhorne, former Guest Services Coordinator and will welcome her successor, Jennifer Eaton in a “Passing of the Torch” celebration. The event will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Mezzanine conference room at NRMC.

Eaton is not a new face to the hospital having worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer and Show-Me acceleration program trainer for NRMC. “I am really excited to be returning to the hospital; this is a great place to work,” said Eaton.

Jennifer is a long-time Vernon County resident. She graduated from Bronaugh High School and went on to complete her degree at Missouri State University in Sports Medicine.

The Guest Services Coordinator is a very important role at the hospital. The coordinator’s job is to ensure patients are comfortable and satisfied with their care. Additionally, she works with the Auxiliary to ensure they have the resources needed to do their volunteer work.

Lawhorne worked for NRMC for 17 years. She is loved by many in the hospital and in the community. Sara was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the spring of 2009 and then retired from NRMC. “I love my family at the hospital and I will miss them. However, I am feeling good and treatments are going well,” said Lawhorne.

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month. The NRMC Foundation will be selling the purple Pancreatic Cancer Awareness bracelets in honor of the cause. All proceeds will go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network which is an organization that supports research of this type of cancer.

“There is not a lot of information out there about pancreatic cancer. I feel great about raising money to truly make a difference for others who are going through what I am,” said Lawhorne.

The bracelets will be available at the “Passing of the Torch” ceremony on November 18th, in the Auxiliary Gift Shop at NRMC or, through the Community Education office at 417-667-3355 x3547. For more information about the PCAN go to www.pancan.org.

“Your donation will be going to a great cause. With enough research we will eventually find a cure,” said Lawhorne.
