Physical Therapy Program for Treatment of Urinary Incontinence
To view our urinary incontinence brochure, click here.
NRMC's Rehab department has developed a program to provide non-surgical, non- pharmaceutical management of incontinence. The components of this program at this time include:
- Specific exercise prescriptions
- Biofeedback
- Bladder training
This program helps to control loss of urine secondary to the involuntary emptying of the bladder whenever the sensation of urge is felt or in cases of weakness of the muscles in the floor of the pelvis which support the bladder. Appropriate abdominal strengthening is also emphasized to help support the bladder, vaginal and rectal areas from above. Extensive education is provided to teach individuals how to avoid the kind of stresses which create pressure and ultimately promote descent or dropping of the bladder. These approaches are non-painful and easy to apply.
