QHR Names Nevada Regional Medical Center’s Cindy Buck “CFO of the Year” QHR, the nation’s largest hospital management company and one of the leading healthcare consulting firms in the United States, recently named Cindy Buck, NRMC CFO, its CFO of the Year. The award was announced at QHR’s 2008 CFO Conference, held September 17 and 18 in Franklin, Tenn. “Cindy Buck has done an outstanding job of improving Nevada Regional Medical Center’s financial operations,” said QHR President and CEO James L. Horrar. “Under her leadership, the hospital has established a cash management and planning tool that helps senior management make informed decisions on operational and capital expenditures. She was also the driving force behind a bond refinancing that saved the hospital more than $2.4 million in interest over the life of the bonds (without extending the payoff period).” “Cindy takes a very deliberate and thorough approach to all of her efforts on behalf of Nevada Regional Medical Center,” he added. “We are proud of Cindy and all that she does for her hospital and the QHR family of hospitals.” Some of the financial efforts driven by Buck that have been highly successful include: · 100 Days Financial Improvement Project to identify and improve spending habits · Refinancing of the construction bonds to save $2.4 M · Management of the productivity system to ensure correct staffing · Extensive financial planning for cash expenditures to keep hospital on track financially · Extensive capital acquisition over the past four years in support of patient care Buck serves as Chair of the Hospital Association Team and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She has served as CFO at NRMC since fall of 2003.
