6th Annual Community Health Fair

Nevada Regional Medical Center will host the 6th Annual Community Health Fair Saturday, April 17th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Osage Prairie YMCA, 500 W. Highland. The event is completely free and open to the public. Free health screenings will be available from a variety of Nevada healthcare professionals. Health screenings available include: skin cancer, cholesterol testing (2 hour fast required), bone density screening, blood pressure, blood sugar, hearing, glaucoma, podiatry, chiropractic assessments and more. Participants may also receive a free chair massage.

Several booths will give prizes and giveaways. Woods Supermarket will provide turkey dogs and the Missouri Dept. of Conservation will be handing out tree starts. Featured prizes include a Show-Me Acceleration training program, an Apple iPod and an adult bicycle.

The Community Health Fair Committee has worked to add several booths and activities to encourage and grow participation. This year, the YMCA will offer a free low-impact aquatics class at 9 a.m., Life Yoga will provide a free Zumba class at 10:30 a.m. and a high-impact aquatic class at 11 a.m. The American Cancer Society will provide walk-through tours of a larger-than-life Super Colon. The YMCA will also celebrate “Healthy Kids Day” with a variety of activities for children. The NRMC Auxiliary will have their newly published cookbooks available to purchase and the Nevada Lions Club will be collecting eye glasses to give to others in need.

Youth activity sign-ups will also be available. Nevada Neptunes and Nevada Youth T-Ball, Blast ball and Boys Coach’s Pitch will be accepting registration for the upcoming season. Nevada Area Multi-Sport Club will host a “Spandex-Free” Bike Ride at 8:30 a.m. and a Walk/Run at 9:30 a.m. All ages are welcome to join in the activities.

“We would like for everyone to know this is a family-friendly event. Anyone can come,” said Stacey Wilson, NRMC Community Education Coordinator. “We hope to encourage everyone to take ownership in their health and make it a priority.”

Nevada Medical Clinic, Nevada Urgent Care, Nevada Internal Medicine, John T. Weaver, D.O., FACOS and Osage Prairie YMCA are the co-sponsors of this year’s Health Fair. For more information, call the NRMC Community Education Department at (417) 448-3622.
