NRMC Auxiliary Contributes to Improve Patient Care

The NRMC Volunteer Auxiliary enjoys donating items to help the patients and families who come to NRMC. Recently, they purchased new patient careboards for each patient room. Careboards are dry erase for nurses to fill in information that is important for patients to know throughout their stay. They will allow the patients to have input on their daily activities and care plans. They will also provide them with phone numbers they need, medication times, meal times, and other important information about their hospital stay.

“The careboards will be utilized by the nursing staff and ancillary departments such as X-Ray to provide continuity of care by ensuring everyone who interacts with a patient is informed of their needs. They will also increase patient safety by documenting such things as last medication time” notes Jennifer Eaton, Guest Services Coordinator.

The older patient careboards that the hospital had were small and only had room for the date and nurses’ names to be written on them. The new boards are much bigger and feature key information vital for a patient to know. And, they are large enough so that they can be easily read from the patient’s bed.

Several benefits of the new boards include increased communication with the patients and their families and a decrease in the use of call lights for questions already answered on the boards. The patient’s now have complete information from the time of admission to discharge all in one convenient spot.
