Nevada Regional Medical Center’s Maternity department has received some updated equipment thanks to the NRMC Auxiliary. The NRMC Auxiliary funded purchases for an infant hearing machine, a fetal monitor, a portable fetal monitor, and an infant BiliBlanket Nursery.
“This newer equipment has helped our department by allowing us to monitor patients while they are up and moving which promotes labor,” OB Nurse Manager, Chastity McCullick, RN, BSN said.
The infant hearing machine is used to test all babies’ hearing prior to being discharged as mandated by the state of Missouri. The fetal monitor is used on every patient to assess the baby’s condition while still in the womb as well as the strength of contractions. The wireless monitor does the same functions, yet allows the patient to remain mobile. Laboring mothers are able to get in the whirlpool tubs or walk around all while continuing to monitor the baby. The BiliBlanket is a portable phototherapy device for the treatment of neonatal jaundice. The blanket can be wrapped around the baby so that the mother can still hold them and contains an LED light that allows for faster reduction in the level of bilirubin.
“We are pleased to be able to help the Maternity department in caring for the new mothers and infants in any way that we can,” Martha Wood, Auxiliary president noted.
Total purchases for the Maternity department’s new equipment are approximately $28,000. |
