Dr. Jones, Bush, Wille honored at gala
In a setting evocative of Hawaii, the Nevada Regional Medical Center Foundation raised over $16,000 while recognizing three outstanding staff members at the Sixth Annual NRMC Foundation Gala at the Elks Lodge.
Dubbed the "Aloha Gala," the Oct. 8 event drew 217 participants who saw hula dancers from Cottey College, had photos made by Magic Wand Photography and saw a PowerPoint presentation on the hospital's home health and hospice department.
Awards of Excellence went to a recently retired pediatrician, Dr. Ron Jones, Performance Improvement Administrator Holly Bush and licensed clinical social worker Mary Wille of the social services department.
Foundation spokeswoman Aimee Meyer said Thursday that most of the winners of prize drawings for cash purses on a money tree gave their winnings to the foundation, which is raising money to buy two all-wheel drive vehicles for the transportation of home health and hospice patients.
Meyer said a silent auction for 22 artworks proved successful with some pieces bringing almost $400 with works donated by Ducks Unlimited, the Wild Turkey Federation, the W.F. Norman Corp. and Kansas City artist Janet Carpenter.
She said Carpenter is a native Nevadan who contributed paintings of the White Grill restaurant, a Nevada landmark founded in 1938, and the nationally noted Country Club Plaza in Kansas City.
Emceed by Foundation Chairman Sue Quitno and NRMC Chief Executive Officer Judy Feuquay, the Gala ended with dance music from 9 to 10:30 p.m. by the Ben Miller Band of Joplin. London broiled bacon-wrapped pork loins were served by the hospital's nutritional department with scrimp skewer, wild rice and vegetables.
Meyer said the Elks' Bingo Hall was decorated "to look like a Hawaiian island" by the foundation's staff and volunteers.
