What is Alzheimer's Disease? -- If you or someone you love has Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, the experienced, caring staff of the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center understand and are here to help. The staff of Barone Care Center is proud of the special love, caring and support that surrounds our residents.  The moment you visit us, you'll know that ours is a very special skilled nursing facility. We believe the loss of skills can be slowed and independence maximized by consistently meeting basic human needs; maintaining good health; ensuring a safe, peaceful, accepting environment; and offering a variety of opportunities for exercise, socialization, and activities. Our staff is carefully chosen for personal qualities of patience, compassion, and ability to handle repetitive actions. Our staff is trained to respond to the people behind the illness, not to the symptoms of the illness itself. Our unique facility, the only one of it's kind in the area, combines environment, staff and activities to draw residents out of the darkness of their confusion into the light of reality.  The effectiveness of this program begins with the design and architecture of the building itself.  By filtering out upsetting distractions - noise, shadows, traffic - residents are able to focus on life enhancing interests and pursuits. Assistance with eating, dressing, bathing, grooming, and toileting. Routine structure, familiar, calm surroundings, freedom to safely wander inside and outside. Light, space, fun, laughter, and optimism. Activities, exercise, life-stimulating involvement. Regular medical/nursing assessment of condition with intervention and treatment tailored to meet individual and family preference. Full range of services available to manage all stages of the disease process, and any other illness or problems associated with aging. Rehabilitative services.
